RIPE LIR Services

IP addresses and AS numbers are handed out by the five “Regional Internet Registries” (RIRs) AFRINIC, APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC, and the RIPE NCC. In the RIPE NCC’s region (Europe, the middle-east, and Russia) Local Internet Registries (LIRs) handle the communication between end-users and the RIPE NCC.

If, for example, you would need to request temporary IP resources for specific measurements, you would have to get an LIR to submit that request to the RIR on your behalf. Usually, countries’ NRENs (National Research and Education Network) are LIRs and can handle such a request.

However, as all organizational things go, this can sometimes take a lot of time.

Hence, we1 can provide you with LIR services in such cases. Please note that our statues as well as the RIPE NCC Allocation Policies apply for requests we handle with the RIPE NCC.

  1. At the moment there is no dedicated LIR for measurement.network. Hence, LIR services will be provided by de.wybt until the project got enough traction for its own LIR. ↩︎
